Fran is our new Employment Development Officer for the North West.
She joined the DSA earlier this month and tells us about her career so far and her hopes for the future with WorkFit.
After graduating from University in 2012 I started working as a Teaching Assistant in a Special Educational Needs High School in Cardiff. My job involved supporting students whilst they were in the classroom and on work experience. My time at the school gave me an insight into supported employment and the positive effects it can have.
Moving to the North West of England, I continued to develop my skillset and understanding of supported employment whilst running a supported internship. This provided people aged 18-19 with work experience in a number of different roles in a hospital setting.
Whilst working at the hospital I came into contact with WorkFit and saw first-hand the great opportunities it offers. I truly believe that WorkFit has the ability to break down barriers to allow people with Down’s syndrome to access work; feel valued and become part of their community. I am looking forward to getting involved and meeting people and employers in my area, the North West of England.
WorkFit supports people with Down’s syndrome to access meaningful work opportunities that can benefit the rest of their lives. For more information about WorkFit please contact the team on 0333 12 12 300 or email us on firstname.lastname@example.org
